Why I’m Still Hoping for Another SimCity Game
A week ago EA announced that they plan to release four games in 2023. IGN went over what these titles could possibly be but I have my own personal hopes.
Recently I’ve been playing a lot of SimCity 2013 which had it’s fair share of shortcomings but is still quite an enjoyable game. 2023 will mark 10 years since the last full release so a new title in 2023 would make a lot of sense.
Many feel Cities Skylines already has the genre on lock but considering the success that game has seen, this should be even more reason for EA to give it another try.
We’ve seen some signs of a sequel that was in the works before Maxis was shut down and there was even this unreleased render trailer below which looks amazing.
I’d say these upcoming games are likely a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, the new Mass Effect and Dragon Age game and I’m not sure what that fourth one could be.
The chances of it being an actual SimCity game are quite slim but not impossible. Many people believe the SimCity games died along with Maxis but EA did state that the IP’s will live on. After all the Need for Speed series has had roughly 11 different developers over the series lifetime.
The other branches of Maxis may not be the original but considering Will Wright (the creator of SimCity) left EA in 2009, even the most recent title wasn’t made under his watch.
Regardless I’d be still be very happy to see a full single player game that can take the strengths of SimCity 2013, build on them while fixing all those annoying limitations like the city sizes.
