The Second Run

In the coming weeks I plan to start my second run on one of my all time favorite games, Red Dead Redemption 2.

I got this game at launch on PS4 and then was crazy enough to buy it a second time when it launched on PC. I played it for a bit but never finished it as I was hoping to upgrade my GPU before doing so. As you may know Covid hit, the chip shortage started and prices skyrocketed.

Prices here in Australia are already quite high but the RTX 3080 for example launched at around $1399 AUD and is currently going for around $2400 AUD. Because of this, I won’t be upgrading anytime soon and probably might even wait until the 40XX series cards release.

Because of this I decided there’s no point in waiting to upgrade and I’ll just play it as is on my aging GTX 1070. It has been a long time since I last played it though so I figure I might as well start over. Since originally getting RDR2 on PC I also got the LG 27GL850, a 144hz Gsync compatible monitor which hasn’t really got any major use but this game will change that. I have found that even lower frame rates like 50fps can still look quite smooth thanks to Gsync.

RDR2 is the type of game I really like to take my time and be immersed in. I roughly spent around 100 to 120 hours on my first playthrough and that didn’t even include proper exploration of the western side of the map. Being that it was released towards the end of the year I had other games I also wanted to play. Because of this I felt a bit rushed on my first playthrough.

For my second run I’m hoping to really take my time and get immersed as much as possible. I want to slowly make my way around the map, set up camps in certain areas when hunting and commit as many train robberies as I can! One thing I missed on my playthrough was many interactions around the camp. I spent quite a bit of time around camp but I still managed to miss out on so many events.

There’s also a lot of animals I missed out on seeing/hunting that left my compendium far from being complete. I’m not the type to 100% a game but I do want to get as close as I can with my second run of this.
