Today I woke up to the surprising news that Hulk Hogan has passed away.
In recent years he hasn’t had the greatest reputation due to the racist things he said in that leaked video. For me the thing that we need to remember is those horrible things were said by Terry Bollea, the man who portrayed the fictional character of Hulk Hogan.
If I look at Hulk Hogan as the gimmick and the character, he’s only right up there with the greatest of all time and had the biggest impact on the business along with Stone Cold, The Rock and John Cena.
If you look at Terry Bollea, that’s where it gets more difficult. He did say horrible things and showed no real remorse for it. It’s like if someone who is a very good person portrays a serial killer in a movie, it doesn’t make the actor a bad person just because they portray someone like that in a movie so should be a case that a bad person portraying a good character can be viewed the same. Personally I really disliked Terry for what he said but now he’s passed I don’t feel it’s appropriate to say exactly how much I disliked him.
Regardless, he has passed now so Rest in Peace Hulk Hogan.
