My WWE SummerSlam 2023 Predictions
Here are my predictions for tonight’s Premium Live Event.
Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
For this one it’s honestly so hard to pick. I’ve got my hopes up so many times before that we’d see something original but every Roman match ends the same way which is distraction, interference then pin for the 3.
Everyone is sure Roman will be champ until WM40, but we know whoever the ‘top guy’ is gets quite a bit of say in their booking. I’d say that if Roman wanted to put anyone over, it would be his cousin, not Cody. That way his family stays in a prominent position in WWE and he can go off to Hollywood without worrying. Although I know I’ll probably end up disappointed, I’m going with the former right hand man.
My Pick: Jey Uso
Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar
Being the rubber match (the last match in a best of 3 type scenario) I think it would make the most sense for Cody to win. Brock is already a certified legend and another loss wouldn’t hurt him any. Plus Brock winning doesn’t really help him gain much but certainly takes away from Cody.
This feud could have been that much greater if Cody had won at Mania and Brock was his first challenger but sadly that wasn’t the case. Because of the reasons mention, my pick for this match is pretty easy.
My Pick: Cody Rhodes
World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Finn Balor
Another match that I find it really hard to pick a winner. When you look at Seth, he’s the best he’s been in a long time. The guy is really over, a great fighting champ that actually shows up weekly to defend his title and is very deserving of that spot.
With Finn, he’s already lost to Seth in the WHC qualifying match then the two previous matches for the title. Finn is also at his best in a long time and if he was to lose, it may do irreparable damage to his character.
Although I would love to see Seth retain, it won’t hurt him to lose the title to Finn for a bit then win it back a few weeks/months later.
My Pick: Finn Balor
WWE Women’s Championship: Asuka (c) vs. Bianca Belair vs. Charlotte Flair
For me I feel that this whole match and feud is more about Charlotte and Bianca than it is Asuka which isn’t fair since she deserves a proper title reign.
My ideal scenario for this match would be either Charlotte has Bianca beat or vice versa than before they can pin the person, Asuka hits her finisher on them and steals the pin.
From here they can focus on Asuka having a proper title run and you can get a non title feud between Charlotte and Bianca as they already have their own story there. Because of this, my pick is pretty easy.
My Pick: Asuka
Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Drew McIntyre
For me personally, this match shouldn’t be happening. Upon his return, Drew should have been in the WHC picture, not a mid card title.
Gunther is so close to breaking the IC record and Drew shouldn’t be losing on his first match back. When it comes to taking down Gunther, this would be great for someone like Ilja Dragunov who has history with him or Chad Gable who is well deserving of it.
Ideally, I want Drew to lose due to a non finish such as a double count out or DQ. Let him move on to something better and give this mid card title win to someone who would benefit more from it.
My Pick: Gunther by DQ/Count Out
Logan Paul vs. Ricochet
For this match it’s a bit hard to tell which man should win. Ricochet would benefit a lot more from the win, he’s there full time and the crowd hate Logan so much that they are really behind Ricochet.
On the other hand, Logan Paul has lost his last few matches so really he only has credibility if he gets some wins in there. Being a heel I can see him winning, but not cleanly so that would be my pick.
My Pick: Logan Paul but not a clean finish
Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler
Rumors are that Ronda will be leaving WWE after this match. Personally I hope it isn’t true as although she hasn’t been her best, she is someone that adds credibility and puts eyes on the women’s division. At the same time HHH has been booking the women so poorly, I can’t blame her for wanting to leave.
This doesn’t take away from Shayna’s skill but I do think Ronda will want to dominate this match but have Shayna go over in order to make her friend look as good as possible before she leaves.
My Pick: Shayna Baszler
SummerSlam Battle Royal
In all honestly I’m not really invested in this match and I think it’s a waste of a spot that could have gone to the women. I know the whole point of this Battle Royal was due to the Slim Jim sponsorship but why not make it a Women’s Battle Royal instead to play on existing feuds.
Everything thinks this is being made to give LA Knight a big win but I know WWE love to give heels heat so I can see someone sneaking in to eliminate him and get some great heat from the crowd.
