I Bought the Samsung Tab S7 FE
Earlier this week I got myself a new tabet, The Samsung Tab S7 FE. This is my first Android tablet as I’ve previously only owned the Apple iPad Mini 4 which I got over 5 years ago.
I liked the small size of the iPad Mini and it’s portability since I used to carry it with me but these days my use has changed. The battery on my iPad is completely useless and dies even after charging to 100%. I’ve also been wanting something bigger so decided to see what Samsung had to offer.
When it comes to my uses, my tablet is mainly for streaming content and browsing the web so I don’t need anything powerful. I’ve always wanted a Surface Pro so I can edit on the go and it runs full Windows but the one I’d prefer to get is at least $1600 AUD so a bit more than what I intended to spend.
When I was in store I noticed the Tab S7 FE and was amazed at how good the display looked for the price. Did a bit of research to decide between this and the Tab S7+ and here’s what I think of the tablet so far.
The Apps
As mentioned I’ve been using an Apple Tablet prior to this so I got used to their apps. All the apps I used on iOS like WWE, VLC and my general web browser were all available on Android so that was no issue.
The problem I had was with watching YouTube as on my iPad I generally use Safari with Adguard which can block every single ad. I noticed this wasn’t the case for any browser add on I tried with Samsung Internet.
I ended up getting the Adguard APK which along with a privacy browser seems to work just as well. One good thing about this is with the iPad, the max resolution I could get through the browser was 1080p but with the Samsung it goes all the way up to 8k!
So after these slight changes I’m now really happy with it on the app front.
The Hardware
This is where this tablet really shines and what makes me love it. When looking at comparisons online you’ll see many people favor the S7+ for its AMOLED display which did look really nice to me but not night and day better. The display on the FE is no slouch and for my use it’s makes everything from photos to videos look amazing.
If I was going to use it for photo editing idealy I’d want something with a more accurate and not oversaturated display which this would work better than the AMOLED.
I ended up going for the 128GB version purely for the 6GB of RAM and I’ve also purchased another 128GB MicroSD for it. The fact you can easily expand the storage on this makes it a much better option for me than another iPad. The included S Pen is a great bonus too, although it’s mainly used by my girlfriend when she wants to draw on it.
The Price
Compared to an iPad this tablet is really competitive since it’s around the same price as the new iPad Mini but it comes with an S Pen and is much larger. Generally if someone gets an iPad mini they want it for its size though.
Regardless, the price to performance is really good although this can really depend on where you live as I know in some countries this is almost the same price as the Tab S7+. For us here in Australia it can be around a few hundred dollars so depending on your use, it may or may not be worth it.
Happy Overall
I’m glad I purchased this tablet and since getting it I’ve been spending a lot more time on the couch again rather than my PC. I’m now fighting the temptation to get a keyboard and mouse for it but I’m sure I can resist spending more.
