A Huge Step Forward for the Pokemon Series
Overnight we get a new Pokémon Presents that certainly didn’t disappoint. The Pokémon Company dropped new trailers for both Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as well as Pokémon Legends Arceus.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Above you can see the newest trailer for this game which I really enjoyed. I know many were disappointed that this game used a different art style from SWSH but I personally like how it looks since it’s a mix of that and LGPE’s art style.
Gameplay looks quite nice and stays true to the original game but there’s one important aspect I noticed, you can let Pokémon follow you!!! This was obviously not available in the D&P but then was added in HGSS.
I only played one Sinnoh game (Diamond and Pearl) from memory so the region in general will still be quite new to me. One thing I didn’t really see mentioned was if HM’s will still be present. They were a big aspect of the old games and not something I really miss, but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker if they are included.
It will also be interesting if they put a new twist on Contests or if they will stay the same as the original game. I always liked how the anime handled them where you not only had to battle, but pick moves that looked nice too. If something like that was introduced, it could make the post game much more interesting.
Pokémon Legends Arceus
Now this game is what I’m most excited for now. I won’t lie, at first I was a bit skeptical about if it would be that enjoyable but after watching this trailer, it looks undeniably good.
There has been so many upgrades in terms of gameplay and visuals actually look quite nice. I like how they’ve added battle styles that affect how moves work with “Strong Style” doing more damage but being slower and “Agile Style” being faster but less damage. You can also take damage from wild Pokémon which really adds in more realism.
This preview below by GameXplain covers the new gameplay aspects and is certainly worth watching.
It looks like the battle system has been overhauled with different styles and I can’t wait to try them out. I’m really curious if this is something that we’ll see in future games too.
There also appears to be some type of boss battles too when the Pokémon’s eyes turn red and run at you. I also noticed at one part of the trailer you can see Gyarados doing what looks like Hydro Pump in the open world and it looks really good.
Over on the official site they mention something quite interesting when it comes to catching Pokémon.
Pokémon live freely in all kinds of places—in grassy fields, in forests, or out on the water, to name a few. There may be certain Pokémon behaviors—or even entire species—that you witness only under the right conditions, such as during a particular time of day or in certain kinds of weather.

I always love it when Pokémon are only active/available during certain times of the day, just like animals in real life. This is somewhat present in the Wild Area already but we see some features appear and then disappear in Pokémon games so at least this one is here to stay. I do find that the behaviors of the Pokémon in the open world look really good and a big improvement over previous games.
I’m sure we’ll see more previews before both games release and I’m excited to see all they have to offer. I’ll likely do a Let’s Play style series of these games with a twist but that’s still quite a while away.
